I'm not sure why they called Herbie's, Greenie's, but we called it Herbie's as well. The store on the corner of Glendale and Luzerne was Sam's Deli. Sam passed away and his son Jerry took over. It is now a Deli operated by a Korean family.

My nickname was "Alfie" as in What's it all about Alfie? Not sure why the big kids gave me that nickname but it stuck.

I'm not sure what happened to the Gordon's house. I was in the same grade as Theresa at Holy Innocents. Do you know how she is doing?

Your parents are in their 90's - wow! I lost both of mine. My Grandmother actually passed this week at the age of 97. I just returned to Missouri from Philly after attending the funeral.

Californa sounds great and I am glad that you are doing well.

Yahoo!Good hearing from both of you.Alan is living down south somewhere.I still correspond with his sister to check up on his mom. They were our neighbors for over thirty years. She now lives in jersey. Its hard to believe our parents are ninety years old.
Herbie what a character. He was a nice guy and trusted all his customers who had a standing bill.Yes we were one of those who charged it (we had a page in a composition book).Hard to believe it but we did and dad would always go later on and pay the bill.what happened to him?
Who was greenie? Who were the boys who worked behind the counter? I remember his wife.
What happened to the Gordons house?
Richard is doing well.Graduated from Rutgers Law School. As for me have been teaching in the same district for 35 years and no I am not ready to retire.

Hi Alyce:

I remember your brother Richie and yourself. I hung out with Ken Hesselpoth. Richie would play basketball with the "Big Kids" over at Hoppo. I used to take the grocry orders (by bike - no gears) for John Sturm's butcher shop at Lycoming and Glendale. Herbie the pharmacist. at Greenies used to give my perscriptions to take along with the grocery orders. My how times have changed. Alan Kolas lived on our block and he was also part of our little kid croud back them. Bottle caps, stickball, halfball, wireball, stepball, wallball - I remember it all. Went to LaSalle H.S> and LaSalle college.

Alyce - I remember you, you had a brother. I lived at 4027 Glendale Street and we use to play all sort of games in our driveway between M St. and Glendale St. I use to love to play bottle caps. We all played together really nice. I now live in Las Vegas, NV.

Please except my condolences from both myself and my family. May God bless you and comfort you and yours. We were in the same grade at Holy Innocents.
