Ron Rehmann
Nickname: "Woody;Roughcut;Radical Ron
My name is Ron Rehmann. My nickname was Woody. I wore a wooden
leg as a child and Joey Trunfio began calling
me Woody and it stuck. As I got older my nickname became Roughcut, given to
me by the Merrit Square crew
because I wouldn't shave or get a haircut.
Radical Ron
At lunch in North Catholic, circa 1971, the monitors, Mr. Musitano, Mr. Rankin
and Mr. Atkinson had gone
outside to catch people smoking. Me, Ferdie, and a couple of guys from Port
Richmond were at the table.
When I realized that there were no teachers in the cafeteria I went up to
the podium, turned on the
microphone and told the student body there that we were taking over the cafeteria
and the food was free.
This freaked some of the cafeteria ladies as kids rushed the food line. The
ladies ran outside and got
the teachers who came back, quickly put an end to the bedlam, and promptly
grabbed me. I was made to clean
the tables for a month. It was then that I believe Ferdie began calling me
Radical Ron. It was a monicker
that stuck and one that I liked. Well worth cleaning tables over.
